Latest German Scholarships Opportunities for African Student

There are hundreds of universities in Germany that have free or very low tuition programs available for international students. Whether you want to study Engineering, Medicine, Architecture, or Business, Germany is the place to be. Below are the latest German scholarships for Africa study;

1. ZMT DAAD Doctoral Scholarship  for scholars from Sub-Sahara Africa

The Leibniz Centre for Tropical Marine Research (ZMT) advertises 2 doctoral scholarships starting in fall 2021. Additionally, 2 further doctoral scholarships can be granted starting in 2022. Call for DAAD Doctoral Scholarship applications 2021/2022 for scholars from Sub-Sahara Africa with ZMT on topics of “Adaptation of marine socio-ecological systems to changing environments”

Application Deadline: 20th December 2020

Eligible Countries: Sub-Sahara Africa

Value:  Scholarship installment of €1,200 per month;

  • travel allowance;

  • payments towards health, accident, and personal liability insurance cover;

  • a research allowance of € 460 per year

  • a preparatory intensive German language course starting in Summer 2021

  • under certain circumstances, grant holders may receive a monthly allowance for accompanying family members (about €200 allowance per child and about €275 marriage allowance);

2. DAAD Re-invitation Program for Former Scholarship Holders

DAAD is re-inviting former scholarship holders to carry out research and work projects in Germany and to maintain contacts as part of DAAD’s global alumni network.

Application Deadline: 1st April 2021

Eligibility: International students

Type: Research

Value: Monthly payments of 2,000 Euros for assistant teachers, assistant professors, and lecturers. 2,150 euros for profesTravel allowance, unless these expenses are covered by the home country or another source of funding.

3. Heinrich Boll Foundation Scholarships For International Students

The Heinrich Böll Foundation is offering scholarship opportunities to approximately 1,000 undergraduates, graduates, and doctoral students of all subjects and nationalities who are pursuing their degrees at the universities of applied sciences (‘Fachhochschulen’), or universities of the arts (‘Kunsthochschulen’) in Germany. The scholarship will be offered for the duration of the degree program.

Application Deadlines: 1st March 2021 and 1st September 2021

4. DAAD Scholarships Within East Africa For African Students

Applications are invited from applicants who plan to pursue a career in teaching and/or research at a higher education institution in Sub-Saharan Africa. The program is funded by the German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and aims at university staff in the first line, without neglecting the public sector demand for academically trained personnel. The scholarship is open to citizens and permanent residents of sub-Saharan Africa to study in selected institutions in Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Ethiopia, and Sudan.

Application Deadline: 15th December 2020

Eligible Countries: Sub-Saharan Africa with a first academic degree (Master’s courses) or a Master’s degree (Ph.D. courses).

 Value:

·         Research allowance (once a year)

·         Monthly stipend

·         Travel allowance (in-region only)

·         Health  insurance (in-region only)

·       And the possibility of a study visit of up to 6 months to Germany within the period of the scholarship
